Mary Virginia Stanley

Mary Virginia Stanley died at the Memorial Hospital in Easton, MD on March 5, 2013. She was 70 years old. She was born February 18, 1943 the daughter of the late William and Hattie MatthewsThompson. She received her education in the Dorchester County Public Schools, as well as, in continuing education classes. She worked for many years in various sewing factories, where she developed her skills as a seamstress, and later worked at the former Continental Can Company in Hurlock, MD until her retirement. Mary was a faithful member of Thompson Chapel since her early childhood and as a member; filled roles as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent; past President of the Usher Board, which she helped to organize; past Treasurer of the charge building fund for the parsonage; Communion Steward and Overseer of the Church Cemetery prior to the merge with Faith Community Church in East New Market. Mary sang in the Church Choirs; starting with the Thompson Chapel Youth Choir, then with the Young Adults Choir, which was formed in 1957. Singing also with the New Hope Charge Choir and the Lalaba Singers. She is survived by her husband Webster A. Stanley of Denton, a daughter, Valentina Thompson of Hurlock, MD, two brothers, Freddie R. Thompson and George W. Thompson, Sr., both of Baltimore, MD, brothers and sisters-in-law Yvonne and Russell Brown of Preston, William and Dorothy Stanley of Memphis, TN, Janice Rouse and Mary L. Stanley both of Hurlock and Brenda Gwynn of Greensboro, NC, a special niece, Patricia O. Banks of Secretary, MD, a special daughter Glaniece Camper of Hurlock, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, Oliver, Winfield, James, and Theodore Thompson, and a sister Gertie Mae Thompson. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Community Church in East New Market, MD with Rev. William Ross officiating. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m and from 12:00 to 1:00 on Saturday. Burial will follow at Thompsontown Cemetery. Share memories at www.framptom.com
