John R. Sammons, Sr. of Seaford, DE, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Christiana Hospital. He was 65. He was born on November 23, 1947 at Oak Grove the son of the late Robert Sammons, I, and Kathleen Wheatley Sammons. John was a poultry farmer. He also had worked for Southern States and for Sammons Construction. He enjoyed going fox hunting, gardening, walking around his farm, and spending time with his grandchildren and his dogs. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Arlene Baughman Sammons, two sons, John Sammons, Jr. and his wife Tara Sammons, Jerry W. Sammons and his girlfriend Ronda Moor, all of Seaford, a daughter, Sandra Sammons and her fiancé, Wayne Brown, Jr. of Seaford, eight grandchildren, Ava Pusey, Shelby Sammons, Judith Sammons, Summer Sammons, Roland, Kyle, Joseph Cathcart, Brady Shawn, and one on the way, two sisters, Joyce Stull and her husband Curt, and Margie Baker, a brother-in-law, Gene Walden, Sr., his mother-in-law, Grace E. Stone, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Donovan Sammons, and three sisters, Faye, Doris, and Mary Ann. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Everett Issacs officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 to 1:00 at the church.
