Queenie Ryle Lomax passed away on Wed. Oct. 1, 2014 at her home in Preston. She was 85. She was born Dec. 30, 1928 in Burlington, KY, the daughter of the late Elbert Stephens Ryle and Effie Webster Ryle. Her husband of 34 years whom she married on Feb. 6, 1947, C. Spencer Lomax, preceded her in death on May 3, 1981. Queenie graduated from East New Market High School and received her Masters Degree from Salisbury State College. She was an educator and had been a teacher in Caroline County and Dorchester County Public Schools. She was a former member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and was a member of Talbot Bible Church. She faithfully led many Bible Studies and taught Sunday School, and was active in church choirs her entire life. She was blessed with many talents, including yardwork, playing the piano, guitar, harmonica and banjo. She was an accomplished artist in oil paintings as well as a seamstress in making clothes and draperies. She was a member of the Community Club of Preston where she served as past president. She enjoyed being with her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Donna L. Andrew and her husband Richard, of Preston, a son Edson S. Lomax of Snow Hill, MD, seven grandchildren Kari Farnell (Chris), Kory Andrew, Katie Whaples (Bobby), Kasey Andrew (Diane), Erin Terrell (Matt), Shannon Tustin (Ken), and Robby Lomax; ten great-grandchildren Meridith, Christopher, and Alyson Farnell, Andrew, Austin, and Aidan Whaples, Riley and Camryn Terrell, Cole and Dillon Tustin. She was the last of 13 children and is survived by many nieces and nephews, including a close niece Eleanor Crowder and her family. Funeral services will be held on Sat. Oct. 4, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bethesda United Methodist Church in Preston with Rev. Karen Handy and Rev. Mark Farnell officiating. Interment will follow in Junior Order Cemetery in Preston.
